Workstyle Freestyle 030 - 'Mental Health'

Hello Hoxbies!
Welcome to Workstyle Freestyle, with me, Alex Hirst.
And with me, Lizzie Penny.
Umm... Just dropped my towel there...
I've just come straight from the pool, you can see the goggle marks to prove it.
I swim three times a week, which I feel like I
never have time for in my working week,
but I prioritise doing it because I know how important it is
for my mental health. There are proven correlations between exercise
and mental health.
And you're contributing to the Hoxby World365 initiative at the same time.
That's true - see, see another Workstyle Freestyle on that.
We'll cover that another time.
So today we are talking about the very important cause that we campaign for, which is
around mental health. We just want to start by throwing some stats
at you, which are pretty depressing.
Let me tell you about the 47%
of those people with a mental health issue who feel
discriminated against at work.
Attitudinal change.
- Attitudes do need to change.
Very depressingly, if I can focus a little bit here,
1 in 5 people have already left a job
because of a lack of understanding around, or negative attitudes,
to mental health.
1 in 5 people actually dropping out of the workforce
because of attitudes towards mental health.
Probably the most depressing is this one,
15.4 million
working days are lost in the UK alone
as a result of work-related stress,
anxiety or depression.
And that's something you've had experience in,
of work being the catalyst for negative mental health.
Absolutely, I mean obviously I can relate to it personally but I think
a lot of people don't really understand it, don't really understand the scale of the problem,
so it's a really big priority area for us at Hoxby.
If it's something that you believe in then please do hashtag your response with #workwithoutbias
which is what we campaign for at Hoxby,
and we are looking for charities and organisations
who are campaigning in the same space as we are
who we can potentially tie up with.
If you know of any great charities or organisations
please do tag them in the thread below.
That would be awesome, send them our way.
We've been Workstyle Freestyle, we'll see you next time.
Bye!
