We must dress elegant because we will going to be urban this time.
At least a part of the road.
Nobody plans to walk carelessly through the city
For the first time they arrive in the areas of Cluj.
But this magnificient and elegant town attracts instantly, unconsciously...
There is no escape !
You must pay attention as much as it needs.
The walk we are suggesting to you is not accidental.
In a citadel of splendour like Cluj, the history is already a rutine
A daily meeting.
Every street corner has a symbol, every brick hides a story
Every arch opens to you an old and attractive world.
Through the elements that it keeps today, Cluj offers an image
Of baroque and of the end of the 19th Century, of eclecticism.
Till the invasion of the austrians, in 1700, it was
A magnificient medieval city.
The mark of the year 1700 was the Renaissance.
Like in this window
Or some elements from the old italian basilicas.
Even if you get to know all of these
It is said that you haven't seen Cluj, if you didn't saw the Saint Mihail Catedral.
The monumental church is the image of luster and power of the city itself
The spiritual and the dramatic essence of the city.
Otherwise, you can't arrive in Cluj and avoid the Catedral.
From wherever you are looking, from the Feleac or the Dealul Baciului
The grand gothic monument appeares to you like a guiding point.
On any road of the city you take, you will arrive in Piata Unirii
At the base of the overwhelming Roman-Catholic construction
But Cluj is not the only city that praises with imposing constructions.
After it was the Roman Cultural Centre in Dacia Porolissensis
The antique Potaissa became Turda a millennium later.
Powerfull spiritual centre of Europe.
In a single century, the 15th, in Turda were raised
Not less than three churches of monumental dimension, of different religion:
Calvinist, Lutheran and Roman-Catholic.
The absolute innovation wasn't their construction itself,
But the moving political ideea that stood at their baisis.
Immediately after the break from Hungary, Prince Ioan Sigismund
Proclaims the tolerance for the other's religion and for the right to personal religion.
For the first time in the medieval world, ignoring the legacy of inquisition
At the 6th of January 1568, the diet from Arad
Legislates the freedom of conscience and the religious tolerance.
And not anywhere, but in the Roman-Catholic Catedral from Turda.
The three big churchers from the medieval Turda, are some kind of exhibition.
Of a story about the Gothic style in Transilvania.
The Church with a clock
The oldest monument in the city, was built immediately after 1400.
The portal, the abutments and the pier tables with vegetable motives
Supporting fragments of pointed archs
The decorated fresco marks, make the sanctuary
An evidence of the gothic beginnigs.
Almost immediately, in the second part of the same century.
At the north side of the fortress
Was started the construction of an another church
Known today as the Roman-Catholic Church.
Supported on the outside by massive abutments, the construction
Extremely imposing, is entirely gothic
With portals in pointed archs and windows with decorations typically
For the beginnig period of the exuberant medieval style.
In that time was also constructed The Lutheran Church from the so-called "New Turda"
The district of the german miners that arrived here in 1350
It is an simple construction without many decorations
Criticized by the german experts
But in the inside, appeares an magnificient starry arch
With "ribs" talking about the late gothic.
Beside the surprising history of the religious faiths, Turda wears inside
A story, also tumultuous and amazing
In three rows, this town has wholly changed its image
Firstly, you will have to leave your imagination free here, too
About two thousand years ago, Turda was the biggest Roman camp in Dacia.
In every present constructions, there are rocks from the Roman constructions.
The second image beggins in the age of the feudal foundations
Complete with Christian faith and sacred art.
Immediately after the atrocious years of the Tatar invasions and the plagues
It beggins to construct monumentaly, in Turda.
In just one hundred years there are raised series of amazing churches,
Which we talked about previously.
Till the 19th Century, the city changes, for the third time, its image.
After the Reformed and the Catholics shared the old churches between them,
In Turda are constructed modern structures, palaces and cathedrals
But, in each style, after other desires and rules
Almost randomly, everything is mixed and it enclosed with
The Occident and the Orient, Byzantium and Renascence, Balkan and Classic.
What else could be said about Turda ?
The fact that is a nice city that doesn't leave you at peace
Which makes you to stay all the time, watching, with the camera ready.
