Even just smiling and saying something simple like, "How's your day going so far?" can help your rider feel more welcome. If you want to set yourself apart from other drivers, this is a great time to engage your rider. >>Challenge yourself to greet your rider based on what you know about them. Are you picking them up from the airport? Ask them about their flight. Are you taking them home from a night out on the town? Ask them if they enjoyed their evening. >>This can help make you memorable to your rider in a positive way, but be careful with it. Your greeting is an excellent way to figure out if the rider is going to want to talk. Some of our riders love to talk, and asking how their day is going gives them a chance to open up. >>What if your rider says, "I'm fine," while looking down at their cell phone or out the window? They probably don't want to talk, and you don't need to force a conversation. >>Paying attention to these kind of clues from the rider can make a big difference to the rider's experience. Professionalism is appearance and attitude. And smiling can be a part of it. >>What if you're doing everything but your not smiling? "Hi, how are you?" How's that going to make your rider feel? Probably not a great experience, right? And probably not five stars. >>Instead, say it with a smile. "Hi, how are you? Please let me know if there is anything I can do to make your ride more enjoyable." >>When you're picking up a rider, you also need to make sure you have the correct rider. >>A lot of times riders will say who they are, or ask if you are their driver by name. So you don't need to worry about it. However, if someone comes up to your car and says, "Hey, are you Uber?" I want you to say, "I absolutely am. What is the name of the driver you're looking for?" >>The rider has your name and your face on their phone in addition to your car's model and license plate. So they can confirm if you are the right driver for them. Sometimes they might say, "You know I'm not sure, my friend ordered the trip." Then you can say, "That's alright, what's your friends name?" >>However, if you tell someone what your rider's name is, "Are you my rider, John?" That person might say, "Yes!" even if they aren't. And then the real rider John is very unhappy.   >>Why is real John very unhappy? Because he never got picked up   and someone else is in your car. And John is paying for that trip. Mistakes happen. And whenever they do, it takes time and energy to fix them. Save yourself the time and energy by double-checking that you have the correct passenger in the car before you start the trip. >>An easy way to do this is to ask the rider to introduce themselves or ask for the name of the driver they're looking for.
