Every facility providing maternity services and care for newborn infant should:
Step 3 Inform all pregnant women about the benefits and management of breastfeeding.
Dr. Raj K. Anand: The third step is to have sessions with pregnant women to motivate them for breastfeeding and to remove all their doubts. Antenatal counselling on infant and young child nutrition and baby care conducted At least sixty percent of mothers attend the sessions. The session addresses the following:
Benefits of breastfeeding and hazards of animal milk or formula and bottle feeding.
Recommendations:
Colostrum
Demand feeding
Bedding in Positioning
Engorgement
Cracked nipples
Adequacy of breast milk
Breastfeeding in women working outside home
