Rescue groups supporters
and refugees held the demonstration
in centre Athens to highlight
what they called the increasing
criminalization of sea rescues
and the anti migration polices
of some EU countries.
Some of the protesters lay down
in front of banners that read
would you save us
to bring attention
to the problem of the thousand
of people who die each year
trying to reach Europe.
The predominant color was orange:
reference to the lifejackets
usally worn by migrants
picked up in the Mediterranean.
The rally in Athens
which is one event
in a series across Europe
organized by the
International Movement Sea Broker,
that translated as sea bridge.
The movement is calling
the establishment
of safe routes for refugees,
safe XX
and end to the criminalization
of sea rescues and human conditions
for refugees XX arrival.
Some also called for the release
of prominent
Syrian refugees: Sarah Mardini and
the Irish volunteer: Sean Bynda
XXX in Greek custody
for allegedly facilitating refugees
at migrants into Greece.
