Especially Jews.
My mother took a sac of clothes. She could only take a small amount of clothes. She carried all the clothes she could.
So we went to the train station. Soldiers helped us onto some train and we evacuated the city.
During the train ride, the Germans bombed our train.
There were always German planes flying overhead.
The planes tried to bomb any railroads.
So that's how we made it to Urupinsky District [Volgograd, Russia]
In that city, as we were passing through, there were constant raids. The German planes tried to bomb any gas stations and military equipment and supplies.
The Germans tried to destroy anything they could. And our train was traveling next to these gas stations. So when the raids began our train was stopped.
We hid under the trains. Even though if a bomb would have hit the train we would've died.
Anyways we survived the bombing and traveled into the depths of Russia. Close to the Ural Mountains were there were no Germans.
People met us there and helped us settle into a house. We weren't the only family. We were lucky to get a nice hostess and we lived there.
