[Samantha Brown] [Travel] [AARP Travel Ambassador] [Samantha Brown] Hi, I'm Samantha Brown, and I'm going to ask you to take a moment to reflect. Really! Our lives are so busy and filled with things we have to do, and that includes trip we have to take. [Vacation Re-Imagined] But, what about if you slowed down for a moment and really thought about what you want to do next with your life, and how travel could actually help you with that decision. There are many great ideas for trips that go way beyond the traditionallergies sightseeing, and that allow you to tap into your passion. So, I'm going to give you three ideas to think about right now. Number one: Take A Class. Oh, sure you can take a class anywhere, but why not take it some place special. You know, there's something about being in a new place that really opens us up to the experience, and allows us to expand our own horizons. So, for instance if you love cooking how about taking a cooking class in Italy? Love the outdoors, what about an outdoor survival class in Alaska? Or REI has some great packages for the nature lover in you. Always wanted to learn a foreign language. Check out vacation language courses online to find a group or a program on your next trip. Taking a class while getting to take in the sights of new location will create a memorable trip for you, stimulate that wonderful brain of yours, and give you new skills. Number two: Try Voluntourism. Want to give back on your next vacation? There are numerous tour operators who combine volunteering and travel. Voluntourism is one of the most popular categories in travel, and it grows every year, and is especially popular amongst Boomers. There are tour companies that offer packages where you can do everything from cleaning up local wildlife areas to assisting with archaeological sites, even helping to build and rebuild people's lives. With opportunities all around the world you are sure to find something anywhere you would like to go. Number three: Retiring Abroad. Retirement might be a ways off or it might be just around the corner. But if you've ever thought about retiring abroad, why not take a country for a test drive? You know, you got to go for a visit, but live like a local staying in a rental home rather than a hotel in a neighborhood you think you might like to relocate to. Another good idea is to connect with the locals in advance. And you might think how do I do that? It's easy. Online forums, they're a great place to start to meet new people in a new location before visiting or moving there. For example, seek out hobby groups. You know, you might really enjoy running, well see if there's a local runners group you could join in with. If you're a musician, you play golf, whatever you do try to find a group focused on that hobby. If you're a member of a national organization, like the Rotary Club for instance, contact the local chapter and attend a meeting. See, there are so many ways to meet locals and expats who can give you the real scoop on what it's like to live in a particular place. Remember, travel marks a new beginning. It's a fresh start, and if you're looking for a new beginning in your life why wait till it comes to you. Travel to it. For more of my travel tips visit [Samantha Brown] [AARP Travel Ambassador]
