[What do the experts say
about flossing?]
So let's talk about flossing.
Is it beneficial to us or is it not?
One of the biggest factors
in flossing that benefit us
is it helps prevent gum disease.
Another is it helps prevent decay.
We can help prevent
gum disease and decay
by flossing at least once a day.
The technique in flossing
is very important
as far as what results
we will end up with.
So, for example,
if we're properly flossing
you wanna be hugging the tooth
or using that floss
as a replacement for our toothbrush.
We want to physically be removing
the plaque from the teeth,
not just getting food debris out.
Stimulating the gum tissue,
that will help prevent...
help minimize any bleeding
that we might see.
Our gums should not be bleeding,
they should not be sore
while we're flossing.
There are a variety
of different types of floss
that we can use
to help us attain good results.
One, would be using floss picks.
Another, would be to use
the regular floss
or Super Floss is another good idea,
especially if you have braces or
bridges and stuff to get underneath.
I have patients ask me all the time,
do I floss before I brush,
do I floss after I brush?
It doesn't matter,
as long as we're doing it,
it should make the difference.
