Have you worried about your debt? You're not alone. It’s likely someone in your family, a neighbor down the block or a co-worker in your office is in bankruptcy court. You may be caught in a debt trap. How big of a problem is debt? You know it's huge! The average household consumer debt is about $9,000. Did you realize that the average US family pays about $1,200 in credit card interest alone every single year! Where can you turn to find the best source to help you get a handle on your finances? Believe it or not, it’s the Bible. Your Bible is the guidebook for life. Did you know that it contains more than 2300 verses on how to handle money and possessions? It’s not an oppressive book of do’s and don’ts. It’s a practical book to help free you from the ways of this world. So, what can you do to get out of the debt trap? To begin with, work more and spend less. It's simple, you can make yourself worth more. Get some training. Get some education. That may be the single biggest step you ever take to improve your financial situation. Overall, the answer is a change in lifestyle. Now what do you think it the most important step in breaking the debt trap? Make God your partner. The Maker of the universe is the best financial partner you could ever have. Make God your priority. Honor Him with your life. Honor Him with your time. Honor Him with your income. You know, when we put a spiritual matter first, then we can count on His help with the physical necessities of life. You don't have to live under a financial burden. Look to God and He'll help you break free of the debt trap. For Beyond Today, I'm Steve Myers.
