Sermon text: Luke 7:11-17 (NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION) Let us rise for the reading of this morning's sermon text, recorded for us in Luke's Gospel where we read from Chapter 7, beginning with Verse 11: SOON AFTERWARD, JESUS WENT TO A TOWN CALLED NAIN, AND HIS DISCIPLES AND A LARGE CROWD WENT ALONG WITH HIM. AS HE APPROACHED THE TOWN GATE, A DEAD PERSON WAS BEING CARRIED OUT - THE ONLY SON OF HIS MOTHER AND SHE WAS A WIDOW. AND A LARGE CROWD FROM THE TOWN WAS WITH HER. WHEN THE LORD SAW HER, HIS HEART WENT OUT TO HER AND HE SAID, "DON'T CRY." THEN HE WENT UP AND TOUCHED THE COFFIN, AND THOSE CARRYING IT STOOD STILL. HE SAID, "YOUNG MAN, I SAY TO YOU, GET UP!" THE DEAD MAN SAT UP AND BEGAN TO TALK, AND JESUS GAVE HIM BACK TO HIS MOTHER. THEY WERE ALL FILLED WITH AWE AND PRAISED GOD. "A GREAT PROPHET HAS APPEARED AMONG US," THEY SAID. "GOD HAS COME TO HELP HIS PEOPLE." THIS NEWS ABOUT JESUS SPREAD THROUGHOUT JUDEA AND THE SURROUNDING COUNTRY. This is the Word of our Lord. Let us pray: Glorious and gracious God, may the words of my mouth and the meditation of each of our hearts be acceptable in Your sight, our only source of hope and comfort. Amen. Text taken from the HOLY BIBLE: NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION 1978 used by permission of Zondervan Bible Publishers. Dear Followers of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. For those of us who did not grow up with computers and cameras everywhere, I think that sometimes we're amazed at how quickly news of events can spread across the globe. How someone can take a video of a lady singing for a television show and in a matter of weeks, millions of people have seen that video. That wars are now there, recorded for us, as we watch the news. We can see everything almost that's happening. We can sit and watch oil today pumping out of a broken tube for hours on end. The news is there and it's at our fingertips. We can share our very thoughts with people. We can broadcast our personal lives to all of our family and friends with a click of a mouse! How easy it is for us to get news out and to share it. But I think we can all sit back and examine that news and say to ourselves: What of this, is really important. What of this really matters tomorrow even? Let alone eternally! We have wonderful resources at our fingertips to be able to spread the news of Jesus Christ. And we as God's people today need to grasp those things. To figure them out and to bring them under the power of God and to use them to proclaim the Good News that Jesus Christ has come into this world! That Jesus Christ has come to help people! That's the greatest news that needs to be broadcast! It's news that we've heard of twice now this morning, we've shared with people. The early Christian church spread that news of the goodness of Jesus Christ. Because all of a sudden, a man named Saul, now named Paul, was coming to proclaim Jesus as the Lord and Savior. As the One who had fulfilled the Old Testament. That word spread throughout the New Testament church because of who he was. And what he was. Paul, in his own words ... he was rising in Judaism beyond many people of his own age. He was a persecutor of the church. He was going to stamp out those who believed in Jesus Christ ... until the Lord came to him and revealed to him the truth. The glorious news that Jesus WAS the FULFILLMENT of the Old Testament prophecies. That Jesus WAS the Christ! The Son of the living God! That Jesus came to be the One to redeem the people from their sins. To fulfill all of those Old Testament sacrifices, by sacrificing Himself and shedding His own blood so that sin would be atoned for. That people could approach God on their own, through faith in Jesus Christ, and be blessed by Him. That news was revealed to Paul and He couldn't help but proclaim that Jesus was the Christ! And he went out in church after church place after place, city after city, proclaiming the news that Jesus is the Christ! But that news was being spread, just as the news that Jesus spread, throughout the country where He was performing His work. And doing those miracles that time and time again, showed to the people of God that He was more than just someone who had a good speech ... who could talk well. He performed the very acts of God. He gave people their sight back. He restored their hearing. He healed the sick and the lame. And that day in Nain, as that funeral procession was going out, and that widow's son was lying dead and lifeless in that coffin, Jesus stopped that procession. He looked into that woman's eyes, who no doubt was reeked with havoc, in turmoil and stress, over the death of her son. And He said to that woman: "DON'T CRY!" Because His heart ached for her. His heart was sympathetic to her. He stopped that funeral procession, placed His hand on that coffin and said: Young man, get up! And he did. By the power and the strength of God. By Jesus Christ, God's Son, who Himself had the power over life and death. And He took that living son and gave him back to his mother. Who couldn't share that wonderful news? The people realized that there was someone GREAT among them. A great prophet. One who was proclaiming the will of God. We have seen Jesus doing those same miracles. We have witnessed what He came to do on the pages of Scripture. That He was OUR Savior. That He was CRUCIFIED for US. That He rose from the dead assuring us that those who believe in Him will also rise to eternal life. That we will live with Him and be with Him. That He is in heaven at this very moment at the throne of God asking and pleading and begging that the things for our spiritual good would be granted to us. He is the Son of God. He is our Lord and Savior and He is STILL active in our lives. And will be active in our eternal life. That's the news that we have. The Son of God came into this world to save sinners ... of which I am the worst. And I know that because all I have to do is look in my own heart, and realize that God is not always number 1 and I DO NOT always love my neighbor. The Law is broken. I'm condemned to hell. And none of you can stand up and say that you are any different. All we have to do is look at what we are inside and realize we can't save ourselves. But Jesus came to help us. God set up a plan for our salvation so that we would not have to live forever as we are. That we would NOT be condemned to hell for all eternity because of what we do and what we think and the things that we leave undone that God would have us do. Jesus Christ came to us because He loved us. He comes to us in compassion. He comes to us with those same eyes that looked at that grieving widow and He says: Stop crying! Stop hurting! Come to Me and I will give you rest. What great and wonderful news that brings into our lives. What comfort that gives to us that goes beyond our human understanding. That God would care for us and love us so much! And help us. And not abandon us. But He's left us the record of His life. He's left us His Word ... to encourage us, to remind us of all that He has done to help us and all that He WILL DO to help us. But we're reminded from the Psalms that we have the joy of being able to go to God and plead our sins to Him, and that He forgives us. We take that wailing in our life. That wailing of sadness and being weighed down, filled with grief and concern and care and He says to us: My children, dance! Get up and dance with joy! Dance and realize that your heart is filled with the love of Christ. It doesn't make any of the bad things around us go away. It doesn't keep evil from our lives, but we know the grace of God watches over us. And it covers us. And it makes all of the difference in our life in this world. And we can dance. Even in the middle of Judgment Day coming itself ... the children of God can dance! In the grace of God! In the joy that is ours! And that's the news that we have to share. I'm really thrilled for the people that Post on their Facebook page that today they baked a cake. That they had a wonderful garden put in? Of course we're excited about hearing that news. But what's our greatest news? What's the greatest joy that we have? Thank God that I got out of bed this morning for another day of grace. That the garden that I planted reminds me of the seasons that God provides. That He will always provide for me ... food or even the beauty that's in a flower. That He cares for me more than that blossom that is going to wither and die. And I don't have to worry. I don't have to be concerned about what I'm gonna eat or what I'm gonna wear. Because my God takes care of me. THAT is the news that so many people are missing in their lives. That's the news that so many people need to hear to comfort them. To remind them that God's Son has come. He has helped His people. He STILL helps His people! And that news changes lives. Look at what God has done for you in your life. And I encourage you today to SPREAD THAT NEWS! Amen. Let us rise. Now may the peace of God which goes beyond all of our understanding, keep your hearts and your minds and especially your lives in the one true faith unto life everlasting. Amen.

It is our privilege to be able to share that our precious God has the power to bring people physically from death to life and the spiritual regeneration of Paul (Galatians 1:11-24) vividly describes that our Triune God IS the One who gives spiritual life. To contact Pastor Dave:
