The research that I do is biochemistry. I’m a protein chemist, which means that I run protein purifications. In the cell, there are a lot of proteins working in different ways... ...and I’m trying to find a transcription factor, which regulates expression of a certain protein in the cell. There is an enzyme in the cell, called ribonucleotide reductase, which is composed of different subunits. One of these subunits is only present in the cell during a short period of the cell cycle, and we want to find out why this is, what is activating the expression of this protein. We know the DNA sequence where is binds, but we don’t know what is binding, so I’m sort of fishing out a protein, through some protein purification steps.
