Welcome, today you are part of a truly
remarkable global phenomenon - TEDxYouthDay
For a period of 24 hours all around the world
thousands of young people are gathering in meetings just like yours
because they believe in the power of ideas.
So what is TED? TED started out
as a conference for people from the worlds of Technology, Entertainment
and Design, and has broadened ever since.
In 2009 we launched a new program called
TEDx, enabling anyone, anywhere in the world
to host a TED-like conference.
We at TED have had almost nothing to do with your event.
We lent our name, our format, a few simple guidelines and some of our
content. But the really hard work to
make today happen has been down to your local organizer.
And we're truly in awe of the passion and dedication
they have shown to make something like
this work. Today, on International Children's
Day, TEDx organizers in over 60 different cities
are hosting events that feature young people
and their ideas. We thank you all for taking this time
to come and be a part of this exciting conversation
about ideas and our shared future and
now, on with the show!
