Transcript for Jack Szostak interview: How come you became a scientist?

I’ve been interested in science from a very early age.

I’ve always liked math and reading about chemistry.

I had a father who helped me build a chemistry lab in the basement of our house.

My mother helped me get a job, while I was still in high school, in a chemistry lab.

I guess maybe the most important thing is that every now and then...

...I got a really good teacher who inspired me to go on,

so it was always just something that was interesting and new opportunities opened up.

I think it’s the most fun kind of job one could possibly have,

because you just get to spend your whole time thinking about puzzles in Nature...

...and trying to understand the world a little bit better.
