[♪jazzy music playing♪] Domaine.info - Domaine.tr Domaine.info - ICANN Present Mexico - ICANN.MEXICO.CITY - Mexico - March 2009 Applicant Guidebook Q&A - Kurt Pritz - A NovaMedias® Production Sponsored By Domaine.tr My name is Kurt Pritz with ICANN. Kurt Pritz - Senior Vice President Today we talked about the future introduction of new gTLDs. A lot of work has been done by the community over the past several months-- --commenting and offering suggestions on the applicant guidebook. It is an instruction manual for those wishing to apply for a top-level domain. ICANN published an initial version of the guidebook last October. There have been hundreds of suggestions and comments made how the guidebook might be made more clear or how corrections might be made. All those comments have been considered carefully by those who are attempting to construct a clear, timely, definable process-- --for those wishing to apply for a top-level domain. That consideration is reflected in the second version of the guidebook. In addition to that work, ICANN is taking seriously the overarching issues that have been identified in the community-- --for launching this new top-level domain process. Those overarching issues include protection of trademark rights, prevention of user confusion-- --and ensuring the ongoing stability and security of the domain name system. Today we conducted a session to describe how the applicant guidebook has been amended in response to that public comment. There are over 50 substantive areas of change in the guidebook. There is a lot of red ink. We think this version of the guidebook represents a considerable improvement-- --and that is due to the participation of the community in this process. There were many questions at this session-- --demonstrating the interest in the community in moving forward in this process-- --and launching the opportunity for those who wish to obtain a top-level domain. I hope those that attended found the session informative and useful-- --and I look forward to hearing more of their comments in the future. Thank you very much for your participation. I look forward to working with all the members of the community together-- --to continue to improve this version of the guidebook and also finally launch the new gTLD process. ®Copyrights Domaine.info 2009 - All Rights Reserved Your comments and reactions are welcome.
