Pastor Dave

00:03 → 00:06

Zion Ev. Lutheran Torrance, CA (WELS)

00:06 → 00:09

How is everybody today? Good.

00:09 → 00:13

Pastor's all tangled up here.

00:13 → 00:16

So everybody's good today. Who would like to look in

00:16 → 00:19

The Purple Bag to help us out this morning?

00:19 → 00:23

Who'd like to look in The Purple Bag?

00:23 → 00:26

Let's let ... Erika.

00:26 → 00:29

Erika looks inside The Purple Bag and

00:29 → 00:33

Pastor Dave asks: Erika, what's in The Purple Bag today?

00:33 → 00:36

(Soil?) Soil. Erika thinks we have

00:36 → 00:39

dirt in The Purple Bag. Are you sure?

00:39 → 00:42

(It looks like it.) It looks like dirt.

00:42 → 00:46

Caleb, you don't think it's dirt?

00:46 → 00:49

(Iron filings.) Iron filings, well

00:49 → 00:52

that's good.

00:52 → 00:56

Anybody else wanna take a guess at what it is? Wanna

00:56 → 00:59

look at it closer? Anybody wanna look at it closer.

00:59 → 01:02

Tegan, do you know what that looks like?

01:02 → 01:06

What? Looks like dirt?

01:06 → 01:09

Well, that's two dirts and one iron filing.

01:09 → 01:12

Reaching out to children Pastor passes

01:12 → 01:15

the bag around and someone says: Seeds.

01:15 → 01:19

We got seeds.

01:19 → 01:22

Smell it.

01:22 → 01:25

Pastor lets the children smell what's in the bag. Oh ...

01:25 → 01:29

Caleb guesses ... smells like gummi worms.

01:29 → 01:32

It's ... Really? Yeah!

01:32 → 01:35

Nobody smells tea, huh?

01:35 → 01:39

Oh yeah! It's gummi worm tea

01:39 → 01:42

and I've got a special blend of it at home

01:42 → 01:45

But it is kind of interesting

01:45 → 01:48

'cuz it does kinda look like dirt

01:48 → 01:52

and it does look like iron filings, of course.

01:52 → 01:55

But, you know ...it's tea! (Yeah!) And we would wanna

01:55 → 01:58

make a nice cup of tea and that would be a good thing

01:58 → 02:02

for us to relax. What this teaches us though

02:02 → 02:05

is about when people went to Jesus, some of them did not

02:05 → 02:08

know what to think about Him. Some of them

02:08 → 02:12

thought He wasjust a man. Some of them thought He was a

02:12 → 02:15

good teacher. Some of them thought He was a prophet.

02:15 → 02:18

They knew he could do wild and amazing things. Like He

02:18 → 02:21

could heal the sick and people who couldn't talk,

02:21 → 02:25

He gave them back their voice.

02:25 → 02:28

But we want to thank God today

02:28 → 02:31

that we know that Jesus is God's Son.

02:31 → 02:35

And that He's our Savior. That He died for our sins and that

02:35 → 02:38

He cares for us. He loves us and that He is the One who

02:38 → 02:41

saved us from our sins.

02:41 → 02:45

So just like we thought maybe this wasn't tea at first,

02:45 → 02:48

we have to look closer. We have to get close

02:48 → 02:51

to see what it is, and that's the same thing about Jesus.

02:51 → 02:54

We want to stay close to Him so we know what He is like and

02:54 → 02:58

we know what He's done for us. So all our life we're gonna

02:58 → 03:01

learn more and more about Him. Are there any questions?

03:01 → 03:04

For this morning's Children's Message?

03:04 → 03:08

Nope! Then you guys can go back to your moms and dads,

03:08 → 03:11

and we'll join together in our "Hymn-of-the Day".
