Transcript for FROM HAITI; Regine Zamor on volunteering on her own in Haiti:

Time Content
00:00 → 00:03

So Regine, did you come with an organization?

00:03 → 00:07

No, but I knew a lot of people who work in Haiti, locally in the community,

00:07 → 00:11

couse I'm pretty active in New York and I'm active here,

00:11 → 00:16

and I spent the summer here volunteering with in Bathe Ocho with Global Potential.

00:16 → 00:19

SOIL is our partner for our film

00:19 → 00:24

Janie Wynn from the Wynn Farm, I worked with them in Kenscoff, I worked with COHEF

00:24 → 00:27

So I'm pretty knowledgeable about the people in the community on the ground.

00:27 → 00:31

so it was just a matter of trying to get in touch with them.

00:31 → 00:36

It doesn't sound like you waited on any volunteer rolls, on any waitlists

00:36 → 00:45

No, but I was part of the Emergency Earthquake Relief Committee in NY (Governor Patterson & Mayor Bloomberg & the White House)

00:45 → 00:47

and they are telling people to wait and people are just waiting

00:47 → 00:50

and we have committees, everybody's ready to go

00:50 → 00:52

I just didn't want to wait. (Laughs)

00:52 → 00:56

Have you been able to volunteer since you've been down here?

00:56 → 01:01

Yeah. Everyday! There's a lot of work to do. Even if it's talking to people, finding out stuff.

01:01 → 01:05

communication is important so just finding out stuff and being able to tell someone else is ...

01:05 → 01:12

... pretty much volunteering. Going to see somewhere that nobody else is seen is...

01:12 → 01:14

...kind of volunteering because then you can tell someone else.
