True African Stories: As reported by the Daily Sun on, Mon 19 Oct, 2009 |
| 00:17 → 00:19 |
Sinking, in stink! |
| 00:20 → 00:26 |
????, and her crying baby, stand in sewage, that is flooding her shack |
| 00:28 → 00:32 |
some eastern Capetown ships, are sinking in 'shit' |
| 00:34 → 00:36 |
people in 'shacks' are suffering the most |
| 00:36 → 00:42 |
often sewage pipes, run from RDP. houses, and 'spread out' shits, at the shacks |
| 00:44 → 00:49 |
???? in ???? townships, are 'hard hit' by the sewage crisis |
| 00:50 → 00:56 |
????, age 38, ???? in ????, told Daily Sun: |
| 00:57 → 01:01 |
We have been sinking deeper in the shit over the past "ten years" |
| 01:01 → 01:07 |
sometimes the drain pipes are overflowing so badly, that we can't even "sleep" in our shacks |
| 01:07 → 01:10 |
we have to go look for shelter in a community hall |
| 01:11 → 01:17 |
we've asked the municipal many times, come and fix the problem, but it's just getting worse |
| 01:20 → 01:26 |
???? said: The kids living in ?????, have 'bad sores', and a skin rash |
| 01:26 → 01:30 |
because they get in contact, with the shitty water - everyday |
| 01:31 → 01:36 |
our clothes and furniture, have been damaged by these 'cack', flowing into our shacks |
| 01:36 → 01:38 |
???? complained |
| 01:39 → 01:43 |
recently the eastern Cape local government department |
| 01:43 → 01:47 |
admitted that only 'fourteen', out of twenty five municipalities |
| 01:47 → 01:51 |
have reached the 'required standard', of waste water treatment |
| 01:52 → 01:58 |
but the Nelson Mandela blame his municipality, said it's sewage system is in 'good' condition |
| 01:59 → 02:02 |
???? from the municipality said: |
| 02:02 → 02:07 |
The problem is cause by people using newspaper, instead of toilet paper |
| 02:07 → 02:13 |
they also throw 'foreign objects', into the toilet, and then the drains get logged |
| 02:15 → 02:20 |
the problem is caused by people who use newspaper instead of toilet paper? |
| 02:21 → 02:23 |
toilet paper cost 'money' |
| 02:23 → 02:28 |
and these people are already 'struggling', simply to afford 'a shack' to live in |
| 02:28 → 02:30 |
and 'food' to eat |
| 02:30 → 02:36 |
the wide spread unsanitary, and undignified conditions, people are 'forced' to live in |
| 02:36 → 02:38 |
in this world, due to lack of 'money' |
| 02:38 → 02:43 |
is obviously, 'unacceptable' this is not 'the dark ages' |
| 02:44 → 02:50 |
it is perfectly possible, to give everyone equal support, 'clean' living conditions |
| 02:50 → 02:55 |
so that they can live 'in dignity', and be able to afford 'toilet paper' |
| 02:56 → 03:02 |
Those of us with more than enough money, take our comfort and cleanness for granted |
| 03:02 → 03:05 |
making 'spiteful' blame few remarks, about people |
| 03:05 → 03:10 |
who did not themselves, 'choose' to exist in poverty |
| 03:11 → 03:17 |
and yet so many of us have the 'nerve' and the ego, to call ourselves, 'compassionate' |
| 03:17 → 03:23 |
a 'true' active compassion, a true act of 'care', would be to give everyone equal money |
| 03:23 → 03:27 |
equal support, equal dignity, equal cleanness |
| 03:28 → 03:31 |
'Whole township', flooded with 'shit'! |
| 03:31 → 03:37 |
causing children, to suffer from sores and 'skin rash', by no fault or choice of their own |
| 03:39 → 03:41 |
Answer me this: |
| 03:42 → 03:46 |
How is it, that in a world where a 'space program' exists? |
| 03:46 → 03:52 |
are such, unacceptable living conditions for human beings 'justify'? |
| 03:52 → 03:57 |
in common sense, the answer again, is self-interest |
| 03:58 → 04:00 |
and the fact that such stories |
| 04:00 → 04:05 |
are not reported, not given attention 'daily' in the mainstream media |
| 04:05 → 04:08 |
only proves, that we're "afraid", of facing |
| 04:08 → 04:14 |
our responsibility, for what 'we' as human beings, allow to exist in this world |
| 04:20 → 04:24 |
