00:00 → 00:03

Hello. I'm David Nachbar and I'm running for New York State Senate in the

00:03 → 00:06

55th Senate District. I'm not a career politician,

00:06 → 00:09

I'm a businessman and I decided to run for office

00:09 → 00:12

because, like you, I believe that New York is

00:12 → 00:15

a great state. But we could be so much better.

00:15 → 00:18

Let me give you a quick idea of what I'm talking about.

00:18 → 00:21

In the last ten years, state spending has doubled

00:21 → 00:24

from 62 billion dollars to 126 billion dollars.

00:24 → 00:27

To pay for it, property taxes have gone up over

00:27 → 00:30

six percent per year. Over 400,000 people have left

00:30 → 00:33

New York State and we've got the highest unemployment

00:33 → 00:36

rate in five years. We rank 47th

00:36 → 00:39

out of the 50 states in job creation

00:39 → 00:42

and 48th out of the 50 states in competitiveness.

00:42 → 00:45

We spend more on our children's education, but

00:45 → 00:48

we're the 17th smartest state. But we're number

00:48 → 00:51

two on one list...the list of the

00:51 → 00:54

worst states to do business in. This is not

00:54 → 00:57

a record of success. We could do so much better.

00:57 → 01:00

Too many people fear losing their jobs. Too many

01:00 → 01:03

people are underemployed in jobs that are far below

01:03 → 01:06

their skills. And as a parent, I'm concerned that too

01:06 → 01:09

many of our children move away because there are no opportunities here.

01:09 → 01:12

At some point, we say enough.

01:12 → 01:15

We could do so much better.

01:15 → 01:18

I have a plan to create jobs and opportunity in New York

01:18 → 01:21

especially here in upstate. I will cut spending so

01:21 → 01:24

we can reduce our tax burden and I want to make sure that every

01:24 → 01:27

New Yorker has access to affordable health insurance and to

01:27 → 01:30

an education that helps us achieve our potential.

01:30 → 01:33

But to do this, we need to fix Albany.

01:33 → 01:36

It's broken. Read more

01:36 → 01:39

on my Web site, NachbarforSenate.com

01:39 → 01:42

Join with your neighbors to discuss the issues. Work with us

01:42 → 01:45

to rebuild the promise of the Empire State. If Albany

01:45 → 01:48

won't change things for us, then we'll change Albany

01:48 → 01:51

and for that we need your energy, your support,

01:51 → 01:54

and your vote. I'm David Nachbar and I'm running for

01:54 → 01:56

New York State Senate.
