PROCLAIM THE GLORY OF THE LORD SERMON TEXT: ISAIAH 52:7-10

00:03 → 00:06

HE (the LORD) HAS REDEEMED JERUSALEM. THE LORD WILL LAY

00:06 → 00:09

BARE HIS HOLY ARM IN THE SIGHT

00:09 → 00:13

OF ALL THE NATIONS, AND ALL THE ENDS OF THE EARTH

00:13 → 00:16

WILL SEE THE SALVATION OF OUR GOD.

00:16 → 00:19

This is the Word of our Lord; Let us pray:

00:19 → 00:23

Glorious and gracious God, may the words

00:23 → 00:26

of my mouth and the meditation of each of our hearts

00:26 → 00:29

be acceptable in Your sight,

00:29 → 00:33

our only source of

00:33 → 00:36

hope and comfort. Amen.

00:36 → 00:39

Pastor Dave motions and waits for the

00:39 → 00:42

congregation to be seated comfortably before

00:42 → 00:46

continuing with the sermon.

00:46 → 00:49

Dear Followers of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

00:49 → 00:52

Did any of you turn the news

00:52 → 00:56

on this morning while you were getting ready

00:56 → 00:59

for church? Maybe while you were

00:59 → 01:02

eating breakfast.

01:02 → 01:06

Did you ever notice anything about the news on

01:06 → 01:09

Christmas Day? It's pretty worthless.

01:09 → 01:12

I mean unless something really, truly major would

01:12 → 01:15

happen, nothing seems

01:15 → 01:19

to get reported. Everybody's off doing something ...

01:19 → 01:22

we have great stories about people feeding the homeless; we

01:22 → 01:25

have stories about the other services that were held, but

01:25 → 01:29

there really isn't anything new!

01:29 → 01:32

I mean we have a big blizzard going on back East ...

01:32 → 01:35

So at least the weather channel has something exciting

01:35 → 01:39

to hear this morning. CNN Headline News was

01:39 → 01:42

playing their entertainment report from

01:42 → 01:45

last night. But there is great ...

01:45 → 01:48

news ... this morning!

01:48 → 01:52

Great news that you and I have,

01:52 → 01:55

that has come to us from God Himself

01:55 → 01:58

ABOUT God Himself.

01:58 → 02:02

That God has revealed His glory in His Son,

02:02 → 02:05

Jesus Christ.

02:05 → 02:08

That He has saved us. And the Prophet Isaiah

02:08 → 02:12

reminds us this morning that WE are to be the ones

02:12 → 02:15

to proclaim the glory of God.

02:15 → 02:18

You and I are the ones who today and every day ...

02:18 → 02:21

every day of our life

02:21 → 02:25

are out there shouting to the people;

02:25 → 02:28

reminding the believers your God reigns,

02:28 → 02:31

Isaiah says. He has come. He has

02:31 → 02:35

brought us joy. He has brought us salvation.

02:35 → 02:38

We have SEEN His glory

02:38 → 02:41

in Jesus Christ and how truly amazing that is.

02:41 → 02:45

That God the Father,

02:45 → 02:48

sent Jesus Christ, His Son

02:48 → 02:51

into this world to be the radiance of

02:51 → 02:54

His glory. So that people

02:54 → 02:58

could hear His voice and

02:58 → 03:01

see in Him the Truths of God.

03:01 → 03:04

We know how tremendously special that is

03:04 → 03:08

when we recall our Old Testament lesson.

03:08 → 03:11

When Moses, that great leader of faith

03:11 → 03:14

in the Old Testament on Mt. Sinai

03:14 → 03:18

said to God: I want to see Your glory.

03:18 → 03:21

Show me Your glory. And the LORD said to him:

03:21 → 03:24

I will ... but realize you

03:24 → 03:27

can't look at My face. You can't

03:27 → 03:31

look at My face in your sinful state

03:31 → 03:34

but I will reveal My Glory to you

03:34 → 03:37

first and foremost in My Name ...

03:37 → 03:41

the LORD ... the LORD.

03:41 → 03:44

The One who's compassionate. The One who's

03:44 → 03:47

gracious ... The One who is

03:47 → 03:51

abounding in love and mercy.

03:51 → 03:54

Who for years and years and years took

03:54 → 03:57

His own people to prepare them to receive Me,

03:57 → 04:00

their Messiah. The One who was going to

04:00 → 04:04

deal with their sin. He was the Savior-God, the

04:04 → 04:07

God of the Covenant that He had made with people.

04:07 → 04:10

That God Himself was

04:10 → 04:14

going to keep. He was going to show people, His love

04:14 → 04:17

in a most beautiful

04:17 → 04:20

and miraculous way. Even

04:20 → 04:24

more so, when we hear Him passing before Moses

04:24 → 04:27

When He takes Moses and He

04:27 → 04:30

tucks him in to the side of that rock.

04:30 → 04:33

And He says: I'm going to put My hand

04:33 → 04:37

in front of you so that you can't see My face

04:37 → 04:40

until I pass by, and then you can see My back.

04:40 → 04:43

Then you will KNOW ...

04:43 → 04:47

the Glory of the LORD. I think we hear those words

04:47 → 04:50

and we're in AWE

04:50 → 04:53

of what that scene must have been like as

04:53 → 04:57

Moses was talking to that Rock.

04:57 → 05:00

And the LORD passed by proclaiming His Name.

05:00 → 05:03

Proclaiming that HE IS the Savior-God.

05:03 → 05:06

The One who is going to deal with people's sins.

05:06 → 05:10

The One who is going to show them His love and

05:10 → 05:13

His abounding grace.

05:13 → 05:16

And we saw that in our Gospel lesson ...

05:16 → 05:20

How God, the Father, did not abandon His plan.

05:20 → 05:23

But He carried it out.

05:23 → 05:26

He prepared the world at that time

05:26 → 05:30

to receive His Son through John the Baptist.

05:30 → 05:33

There were people of God LOOKING for the Messiah.

05:33 → 05:36

They were LONGING to see Him.

05:36 → 05:40

They came up to John and they even went up to him

05:40 → 05:43

thinking he was the One! He was the Christ! He was

05:43 → 05:46

the Messiah of God! And John very clearly told them all:

05:46 → 05:49

I am NOT the Light!

05:49 → 05:53

I am NOT that One. The One who comes after me,

05:53 → 05:56

I am not even worthy to untie the thongs of

05:56 → 05:59

His sandals. And there we see

05:59 → 06:03

that greater miracle of God that He ...

06:03 → 06:06

gave His Son,

06:06 → 06:09

into this world.

06:09 → 06:13

The Son of God taking on our human

06:13 → 06:16

flesh ... and blood.

06:16 → 06:19

To be born into this world.

06:19 → 06:22

To show people God's love.

06:22 → 06:26

To teach them of God's forgiveness.

06:26 → 06:29

To be active, in carrying out

06:29 → 06:32

the will of God, the Father.

06:32 → 06:36

Obeying each and every command that God

06:36 → 06:39

had set and laid down, that human beings couldn't keep.

06:39 → 06:42

And He lived that

06:42 → 06:46

perfect life. He died that perfect death.

06:46 → 06:49

And as the Letter to the Hebrews reminds us,

06:49 → 06:52

we have seen that through the eyes of faith.

06:52 → 06:56

That has been recorded for us

06:56 → 06:59

what God did in taking care

06:59 → 07:02

of our sins.

07:02 → 07:05

In shattering our darkness. In breaking the yoke

07:05 → 07:09

that restrained us, so we couldn't be free.

07:09 → 07:12

But we NOW are free!

07:12 → 07:15

We are free in the forgiveness of God's Son

07:15 → 07:19

who sits in God's heaven at this very moment

07:19 → 07:22

as His One and Only

07:22 → 07:25

beloved Son. And we are to give glory

07:25 → 07:29

to the Name that is above all names.

07:29 → 07:32

The Name of our Savior.

07:32 → 07:35

The One that has brought to us the forgiveness of sins; who

07:35 → 07:38

is our King that we will fall before Him for all eternity,

07:38 → 07:42

singing glory and praise for what He has done.

07:42 → 07:45

As Isaiah reminds us, He is the One who

07:45 → 07:48

came to the ruins of Jerusalem

07:48 → 07:52

and restored them. He is the One who comes to us

07:52 → 07:55

in our ruined state and restores us

07:55 → 07:58

by the power of His working.

07:58 → 08:02

By what He has done.

08:02 → 08:05

And for that, we rejoice!

08:05 → 08:08

That is the Good News of our lives! We are the

08:08 → 08:11

watchman that Isaiah says and tells people to be quiet and

08:11 → 08:15

listen for. We are the ones who have the Good News.

08:15 → 08:18

We are the ones who have the salvation of our God.

08:18 → 08:21

When Isaiah says, proclaim that Glory to God,

08:21 → 08:25

that is yours who loves you.

08:25 → 08:28

Revere His Name.

08:28 → 08:31

Hold it sacred. Carry it with you and

08:31 → 08:35

proclaim it in your life ...

08:35 → 08:38

to a world that so needs to know that Jesus IS

08:38 → 08:41

the ONLY WAY TO HEAVEN.

08:41 → 08:44

He is the Plan that God, the Father, set up and carried out

08:44 → 08:48

and delivered out into this world.

08:48 → 08:51

To deliver us OUT of this world

08:51 → 08:54

into our heavenly home.

08:54 → 08:58

That Name of Jesus is sweet in our hearing,

08:58 → 09:01

And we honor it. And we respect it.

09:01 → 09:04

And we praise it each and every day as we pray to Him

09:04 → 09:08

for all of our needs to be met.

09:08 → 09:11

With all of the thanks that we have from

09:11 → 09:14

hearts that are filled with the knowledge that

09:14 → 09:17

we ARE the children of God.

09:17 → 09:21

Let us hold it sacred and

09:21 → 09:24

let's share it with the world that is still in darkness.

09:24 → 09:27

The world that John reminds us:

09:27 → 09:31

God Himself made.

09:31 → 09:34

Jesus was the Word that was present at creation.

09:34 → 09:37

He came into this world to save it.

09:37 → 09:41

And it saddens us to know that there are still people in this

09:41 → 09:44

world who do not recognize Him,

09:44 → 09:47

who do not see Him.

09:47 → 09:50

Who do not have eternal life ...

09:50 → 09:54

because nobody told them the Good News.

09:54 → 09:57

No one has cried from the rooftops who the Lord of the

09:57 → 10:00

universe is ... and who the Savior is.

10:00 → 10:04

And WE HAVE THAT KNOWLEDGE.

10:04 → 10:07

That Name that was written on our hearts

10:07 → 10:10

at our baptism is ours by faith and

10:10 → 10:14

we hold it SO dear.

10:14 → 10:17

Today we remind ourselves of the joy that is ours.

10:17 → 10:20

The joy that fills our hearts.

10:20 → 10:23

That will be abundant in our life, as we go out

10:23 → 10:27

and proclaim the Glory of the LORD.

10:27 → 10:30

Amen.

10:30 → 10:33

Let us rise.

10:33 → 10:37

Now may the peace of God which goes beyond

10:37 → 10:40

all of our understanding, keep your hearts and your minds and

10:40 → 10:43

especially your lives in the one true faith unto life

10:43 → 10:47

everlasting.

10:47 → 10:50

Amen.
