Dave Armon on New York City's new Chief Digital Officer position

Hi, I’m Dave Armon, here to share some thoughts about
New York City’s creation of a Chief Digital Officer position.
We are perhaps the planet’s biggest cultural melting pot.
In our five boroughs, citizens and visitors from every corner of the world
seek information about New York City.
And they would like to have a voice, as well.
The many digital platforms, connected to the Internet,
offer city government a tremendous opportunity to be more accessible,
and more willing and able to have conversations about important issues.
In a city of eight million people, this is no small task.
Simply setting up a Twitter account and saying that we’re open for business will not suffice.
New York City’s new Chief Digital Officer will need a firm grasp of social technology,
best practices in government communications, superb listening skills,
and, most important, they should be comfortable in a highly visible role.
There’s no reason that only shoe manufacturers and computer makers
should be enjoying stronger relationships through social media.
I look forward to helping New York become a willing participant
in the many conversations important to the people of our city.
Thank you.
