Good morning, welcome to San Francisco.

00:03 → 00:08

Well, to the San Francisco Airport, SFO.

00:08 → 00:12

I'm about to leave, waiting for the plane and it was kind of quiet so

00:12 → 00:15

I took the opportunity to prepare a video postcard for the Techno Blog.

00:15 → 00:17

A short visit to San Francisco today...

00:18 → 00:25

Today is monday, so about 3 or 4 days after the launch of the IPhone.

00:25 → 00:29

I tell you, here the IPhone craze is still strong.

00:29 → 00:32

I dropped by in the Apple Store and...

00:32 → 00:35

there were people waiting in a queue

00:35 → 00:40

as long as the one we could see in Montreal on Ste.Catherine Street

00:40 → 00:43

and this, several days after the launch itself.

00:44 → 00:48

So even though they've sold one million IPhones 3G, it looks like a lot of people still want to get a hand on one.

00:48 → 00:50

This was obvious to me in San Francisco.

00:50 → 00:52

And... not only at the Apple Store

00:52 → 00:58

I also visited AT&T, which is Apple's partner in the United States

00:58 → 01:02

I peeked in a couple of AT&T stores and in one of them, the largest one,

01:02 → 01:08

I heard people still complaining about the IPhone's activation problems.

01:08 → 01:11

Though people seemed happy just to own an IPhone.

01:11 → 01:16

And again, it was very crowded down there when people tried to get an IPhone, some cops were dispatched.

01:16 → 01:18

So that's about it for the IPhone.

01:18 → 01:21

What is really interesting is the advertising that is going on in San Francisco.

01:21 → 01:28

Here, billboards advertise the Samsung Instinct

01:28 → 01:30

Sprint has launch a huge campaign.

01:30 → 01:34

Of course, it's a new model that is supposed to rival the IPhone.

01:34 → 01:40

Also... Just checking my computer, I have notes written down...

01:40 → 01:45

The cell phones fees shown here are so much lower than what you'd expect from Rogers, Bell or Telus.

01:45 → 01:48

I don't want to bug you with that but...

01:48 → 01:57

Just have a look at AT&T's website, or Spirit, PCS, or Mobile...

01:57 → 02:01

Ok, no more comments but quite a difference in the cell phones rates.

02:02 → 02:05

And talking about cell phones,

02:05 → 02:12

I just remembered that I was using my legendary Nokia N95

02:12 → 02:15

to figure out what was the wi-fi network like in downtown San Francisco.

02:15 → 02:18

and it was quite amazing

02:18 → 02:24

At some point, I found on one street corner about 22 hot spots.

02:24 → 02:28

Of course, some were secured but 5 or 6 were not.

02:28 → 02:35

So think about it, that's something! 21-22 accessible hot spots at a crossroads, I was impressed.

02:35 → 02:42

This being said, talking about wi-fi and let's stay in San Francisco...

02:42 → 02:49

I got caught in a Starbucks where I wanted to check the Techno Blog.

02:49 → 02:56

But no, because of Starbuck's alliance with AT&T, you have to become a member

02:56 → 03:01

and because of that, I never managed to read the comments from the blog.

03:01 → 03:09

I had to wait until tonight, at the airport, to be able to connect to an AT&T hot spot.

03:10 → 03:15

Well done, by the way. Good connection, I feel at home with such a fast connection.

03:15 → 03:21

And one last word, maybe you wonder why I'm in San Francisco, not in Los Angeles

03:21 → 03:24

where the E3 is going on right now...

03:24 → 03:29

Well, my trip to San Francisco was planned well in advance. I hadn't really tought about the E3.

03:29 → 03:35

Big news coming from E3. Apple Over holds a press conference over there today.

03:35 → 03:44

Also PlayStation and Nintendo are among the big news we're going to check.

03:44 → 03:49

I'll talk about all of this in the Techno Blog.

03:49 → 03:56

This will be the blog's last real-time update. I'll be on vacation (for real!)

03:56 → 03:59

My girlfirend will be excited to hear that!

03:59 → 04:07

I'll be in Europe without any gadgets... apart from my N95, but it's not what I need to write posts for the blog anyway.

04:07 → 04:13

So during that 3-week break, I invite you to go and read the posts that are there and to comment.

04:13 → 04:18

When I come back, I'll update the blog.

04:18 → 04:24

So there you are, goodbye. Intel will hold a big press conference today

04:24 → 04:29

to announce the release of new microchips

04:29 → 04:32

It's the Centrino 2.

04:32 → 04:42

So great news because they're testing the new microchip and it looks like it will be compatible with Wi-Max and Wi-Fi.

04:42 → 04:52

So just imagine that kind of chip in your laptop, in your car or even in your phone. That would allow you to connect either to Wi-Max or Wi-Fi.

04:52 → 04:57

This is almost like a dream come true.

04:57 → 05:00

Of course, it'll be expensive at first but aftwerwards

05:00 → 05:03

the market should help bring the prices lower.

05:03 → 05:09

So for now I wish you a great summer

05:09 → 05:12

Who knows, maybe you'll see me again before the end of the summer through a video on the net.

05:12 → 05:18

I'll also update the blog this week so please participate. I read all your comments and messages.

05:18 → 05:30

Have a great summer. I'll see you later... After a short break, I'll be back at work on August 11.

05:30 → 05:35

So long from San Francisco !
