Currently in the United States there is a
tremendous demand for energy.
And in particular, electrical energy is an
area that our department can be of service.
So providing clean nuclear energy is one
of the options that is being looked at
very seriously in the U.S.,
as well as around the world.
Oregon State, over the years, has become the
premier thermohydraulic test facility in the country.
So basically, we're the only university
that does complete integral system
certification testing. And we've been
successful on two designs,
the AP 600 and the AP 1000.
And we've just started working on a third design.
Those first two designs were
Westinghouse designs. And now we have
an OSU design, which we're promoting.
And we're retesting here very soon.
This is our one-fourth scale test facility that
we use to assess the performance and
the safety of the AP 1000 plant.
I think the energy research that
we're doing right now is planning
for the future generations.
Not only for this country, but we believe
it has an international impact.
So the concepts that we're developing
in our labs right here, you'll see deployed
all over the world in the future.
