when I arrived to the senate after being elected in 1992.

he had a good institutional background in Albany--

all of those things I lacked the day I walked in the door.

And [Patterson] almost immediately became a friend of mine.

[Patterson] and I shared a lot of passions, including playing basketball.

I know it's difficult to believe that a man who is legally blind

is a basketball player, but he is, and he's actually a pretty good one.
