Transcript for How to link between wiki pages (1st attempt)

Time Content
00:00 → 00:04

So how do you link from one page to another on the Wiki?

00:04 → 00:07

Well, the simplest way to do this is to

00:07 → 00:09

just go into the page to edit it,

00:09 → 00:11

(Click on the edit link)

00:11 → 00:15

Scroll down the page a bit so you can see the wiki markup

00:15 → 00:20

and click in the page where you want your wiki link to be

00:20 → 00:24

and then type an open square bracket

00:24 → 00:28

and then just type the name of the page you want to go to...

00:28 → 00:31

So I know there's a page called

00:31 → 00:35

"Screencast example"

00:35 → 00:40

and then I type a closing square bracket

00:40 → 00:42

and then I hit 'save'.

00:42 → 00:46

Before I do that, I select 'Minor change'' because it's only a small change.

00:46 → 00:48

Save the page,

00:48 → 00:50

and then you see the link here.

00:50 → 00:53

Click on the link and we go to the page.

01:01 → 01:05

The really good thing about this way of linking from page to page

01:05 → 01:09

is that if I actually change the name of the page

01:11 → 01:18

to "A screencasting example"...

01:21 → 01:25

and then go back to the page we were linking from,

01:25 → 01:29

you can see that the link text has actually changed.

01:29 → 01:31

So this really saves you a lot of time and hassle.

01:31 → 01:35

Now, this won't happen if you simply grab the address from the address bar

01:35 → 01:37

and put that in as the link.

01:37 → 01:40

Sure, it'll get you to the page,

01:40 → 01:44

but if you change the name of the page, you won't get this extra benefit.

01:44 → 01:50

So it's best to do it by typing the name of the page, with square brackets around it.
