Transcript for Palestine Festival of Literature 2009

Time Content
01:34 → 01:35

Hi!

01:52 → 01:57

Hello, how are you? How are you?

02:30 → 02:32

Hang on everybody, Hey everyone

02:33 → 02:36

They are saying they are going to close us down,

02:36 → 02:40

But the French Cultural Centre has very kindly offered us their hospitality

02:40 → 02:44

We are moving the opening of PalFest 09 to the French Cultural Centre

02:45 → 02:47

We're walking down there now

03:01 → 03:04

French Cultural Centre

03:08 → 03:12

We were shut down before we started. We showed up at the Palestine National Theatre

03:12 → 03:15

To inaugurate the festival, and

03:15 → 03:18

we had a reception, and food and drinks on the table

03:19 → 03:25

and a whole, I don't know maybe ten, armed Israeli police came in

03:25 → 03:31

and said that we had to close down and that we were not allowed to do our literary event

03:31 → 03:38

And fortunately the French Cultural Councillor was there

03:38 → 03:42

and he offered to host us at the French Cultural Centre which is where we are now

03:46 → 03:49

I am very thankful to all of you for coming

03:49 → 03:55

I am very thankful to Jean Paul and the French Consulate in Jerusalem

03:55 → 03:58

for hosting us in a very quick reaction

03:58 → 04:03

And I am very thankful to all of those who took the time

04:03 → 04:06

and spent the effort to come from abroad

04:06 → 04:09

in order to meet in Jerusalem

04:09 → 04:14

We need you in order to break the siege around the city

04:14 → 04:17

We need you in order to open our minds

04:17 → 04:21

We need you because we do not want the occupation to succeed

04:21 → 04:24

sealing our minds, our heads and our thoughts

04:24 → 04:27

Thank you very much for coming
