Yes, so my name is |
| 00:12 → 00:13 |
Lisbeth Goddik. |
| 00:13 → 00:15 |
And I'm the dairy processing professor |
| 00:15 → 00:17 |
here at OSU. |
| 00:17 → 00:20 |
I'm also the extension specialist |
| 00:20 → 00:21 |
for dairy foods. |
| 00:21 → 00:23 |
Well one of my passions right now |
| 00:23 → 00:26 |
is that we used to have a really good |
| 00:26 → 00:28 |
dairy plant here on campus that was a |
| 00:28 → 00:32 |
wonderful place to train students |
| 00:32 → 00:34 |
in dairy processing. And in fact, |
| 00:34 → 00:36 |
a lot of the people running the dairy |
| 00:36 → 00:39 |
processing plants in Oregon today |
| 00:39 → 00:42 |
came through that pilot plant, |
| 00:42 → 00:44 |
but it was shut down 30 years ago. |
| 00:44 → 00:46 |
And we're just starting it up. It's only |
| 00:46 → 00:48 |
half a year old the kind of plant you see in |
| 00:48 → 00:51 |
there. It's completely remodeled and we're still purchasing equipment |
| 00:51 → 00:54 |
and getting the place ready. |
| 00:54 → 00:57 |
And my dream now- |
| 00:57 → 00:59 |
well, what will happen is that we're |
| 00:59 → 01:01 |
going to get it licensed so that it becomes |
| 01:01 → 01:03 |
an incubator plant. |
| 01:03 → 01:07 |
And people who want to start up a specialty, |
| 01:07 → 01:10 |
artisan dairy processing, they can |
| 01:10 → 01:14 |
come in and make products and start selling them. |
| 01:14 → 01:16 |
And if the sell well, well then that's a good reason to go |
| 01:16 → 01:19 |
out and build their own production plant. |
| 01:19 → 01:21 |
And I suppose my other passion |
| 01:21 → 01:23 |
is a little more hands on today, |
| 01:23 → 01:25 |
working with students from |
| 01:25 → 01:28 |
under-served communities now and then. |
| 01:28 → 01:30 |
I really like helping other immigrants. |
| 01:30 → 01:32 |
I think that's really neat to |
| 01:32 → 01:34 |
to help those kids. |
| 01:34 → 01:36 |
Well in part because I can see the |
| 01:36 → 01:39 |
advantage when my kids grew up in a home |
| 01:39 → 01:42 |
where one of the parents are a professor, |
| 01:42 → 01:44 |
it's so easy for them. But I know |
| 01:44 → 01:46 |
the way i grew up, I didn't have |
| 01:46 → 01:48 |
parents who are professors or anything, |
| 01:48 → 01:50 |
it was much harder. So I think |
| 01:50 → 01:52 |
those kids need a little extra help, |
| 01:52 → 01:54 |
so anything I can do to help there, |
| 01:54 → 01:56 |
I'm really happy doing that. |
