- In 1981, somebody offered me my first translation job.
- It was a movie that needed to be subtitled from Italian into Portuguese for a film festival.
- I had to learn the ratio between frames per second,
- and the length of the subtitle before I could do my job.
- I remember using a typewriter to write the subtitles, and actually,
- watching the movie on a moviola to make sure that everything was correct.
- Everything was hard and time-consuming.
- Now, fast forward almost 30 years.
- Everybody is a film-maker now, with their digital cameras and even cell phones.
- Video is ubiquitous in the global village.
- Information is accessible to everyone, everywhere, at anytime.
- One of the few challenges though to this global information access,
- was overcoming the language barrier.
- But not anymore.
- dotSUB breaks the language barrier and allows anybody with an internet connection,
- and basic translation skills,
- to enable this global communication. To share knowledge and information in any language.
- In my opinion, dotSUB and Google Translator Toolkit
- are the technologies that bring innovation to the language business.
- Thank you.
