[♪jazzy music playing♪] Domaine.info Domaine.info - ICANN Present Mexico ICANN.MEXICO.CITY Mexico - March 2009 At-Large Summit Opening General Session - A NovaMedias® Production Sponsored by Domaine.info Hello. I'm Jean -Jacques Subrenat, a member of the board of ICANN-- Jean-Jacques Subrenat - ICANN Board Member --and I'm a member also of the working group for the review of ALAC. What does at-large really mean? Well, it means the user community, which is perhaps not as organized as other parts of the ICANN community-- --such as business or the registrars or the registries or the governments, etc. So I think that the future of the internet calls, I think, really more for participation by users. Of course, there is a real problem: How do they organize? But I think that the ALAC is the primary home, as it were, of the user--the at-large user-- --whom you are probably, if you are listening to this or watching this from your laptop or from your computer at home. So I don't want to waste much of your time on this video-- --but I urge you very strongly to get to the website of ICANN-- [www.atlarge.icann.org] --and to check At-Large--how you can become involved in that. I think it's important for you but it's important for all of us that we increase the quality and the scope of participation. Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. I actually almost--and this is a rare moment for me-- --as chair of the At-Large Advisory Committee-- Cheryl Langdon-Orr - Chair of ALAC Mexico City - Mexico March 2009 --I'm practically caught for words on being able to tell you how excited I am to have this summit actually come to fruition-- --the hundreds of hours that have been put in by the At-Large community to make this happen-- --and to make this happen as well as I'm confident it will do. Hi there. My name is Cheryl Langdon-Orr-- Cheryl Langdon-Orr - Chair of ALAC --and I'm the At-Large Advisory Committee Chair. We've had an exciting and actually very, very intense day yesterday-- --Day 1 of the very first At-Large User Summit. We brought more than 90 At-Large structures together-- --representatives from all parts of the globe--5 different regions. We've had a full day of learning about ICANN-- --of engaging between ourselves as part of the community-- --and the parts that make up the other support organizations and advisory committees. This isn't just a matter of a bunch of elected people-- --or a few people who feel privileged and able to have gate internet connectivity. We've got emerging economies, we've got developing countries-- --we've got voices being heard in Spanish, in French, in English simultaneously. I'm a member also of the working group for the review of ALAC. Jean-Jacques Subrenat - ICAAN Board Member Mexico City - Mexico March 2009 This morning we were invited by the At-Large Summit to come and talk about the work we did-- --and our evaluation of what remains to be done for improved at-large participation in all ICANN activities-- --especially in contributing to the formulation of policy. There has been quite a bit of discussion this morning in this meeting about the ways in which public partcipation could be improved-- --because it is actually one of the important aspects of engaging the at-large community in a more efficient manner in the activities of ICANN. Thank you. Looking forward to seeing you soon. ®Copyrights Domaine.info 2009 All Rights Reserved Your comments and reactions are welcome. Vos commentaires et reactions sont les bienvenues.
